Restaurant

"Absolutely everything we serve you is prepared in our own kitchen, including breads, hand rolled pastas, and smoked meat, fish and poultry. We use only the freshest seasonal ingredients and feature local and regional organic and wild crafted products whenever possible."         ~ Executive Chef Alan Kantor

The MacCallum House set the standard in the very early days of the interest in organics with Executive Chef Alan Kantor's long-time focus on sustainable farming. He made efforts to honor his purveyors with a special food-shed map in an original colored drawing that is framed in the Restaurant foyer; on his website there was special purveyors’ section with a description of each small farm and vendor.

Everything about the MacCallum House Restaurant and Grey Whale Bar & Café is warm and inviting, from the sunny wrap-around porch to the convivial bar and romantic firelit dining rooms. Combining the town's charm, history, local life and flavors into one tasty package, the "Mac" is a great starting point for getting to know Mendocino. An exceptional staff makes you feel as if you've been invited over to dinner by friends.

In the restaurant, dinners are served in the former library, graced by two riverstone fireplaces, candles and garden flowers on the tables or, informally, in the sunporch café.

To begin the MacCallum House dining experience you might choose an aperitif from the Grey Whale Bar to accompany a first course of select Pacific Rim oysters, Liberty Farm duck leg confit or roasted gnocchi and chanterelle salad. Second courses may include wild king salmon, bouillabaisse, roasted Rosie organic chicken, grilled Niman Ranch chops and steaks, the vegetarian dinner or one of the evening’s exciting specials.

We offer a fine wine selection with a focus on outstanding local vintages. House made ice creams, cheesecake soufflés, bread puddings and crème brulées make for a sweet ending, or perhaps enjoy a late night dessert with espresso, cappuccino or cafe latté after a village stroll. Chance meetings with other coast explorers like yourself, or with Mendocino's colorful and artistic community, make the Grey Whale Bar THE place to capture the flavor of the village.
