The bounty of fall’s harvest is upon us here at the MacCallum House and the holidays are right around the corner. We look forward to celebrating Halloween, Thanksgiving Dinner, Chanukah, Christmas and the New Year’s Eve dinners with our guests who make this time of year a tradition at the MacCallum House.

Fall brings our best weather of the year. As the days become shorter it is a wonderful time to visit Mendocino and reflect on the past or plan for the future, to rekindle friendship, celebrate romance and rejuvenate your spirit. Escape the pressure of modern life for a few days, take a walk across our rugged windswept headlands to a pristine beach, enjoy gourmet dining, receive a massage, take a long soak in a hot tub, and snuggle up in front of a warm crackling fireplace.

Our very best to you and your families this holiday season,

A Message from New GM Herman Seidell

Herman Seidell

I have been working at the MacCallum House Properties for six months. It has been a wonderful experience to be back home and working with such a talented team. I have enjoyed meeting many of you and reacquainting myself with the Mendocino community. We have made significant improvements to rooms and the grounds. We also continue to upgrade the level of amenities and service on the property.

I would love to hear your feedback and respond personally to all guest comments. Comments are greatly appreciated and help us create a better experience for future guests. You are always welcome to write me with your thoughts at herman@maccallumhouse.com. If I have not met you, I hope to have the opportunity in the coming months.

Mendocino Vilage Inn

Lush New Gardens and Remodeled Rooms at Mendocino Village Inn

This spring we began giving a facelift to the newly acquired property, Mendocino Village Inn. This grand old 1882 Victorian is shining again with the removal of a dangerous towering pine tree and the planting of a beautiful new garden full of colorful plants and lush green lawns. Two old rooms, Eleanor Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt, were given a makeover, restoring vintage flooring and updating bathrooms with claw foot tubs and marble. Of course some modern touches were added as well, like thick new mattresses and LCD flat screen televisions.

With three properties in town and a multitude of vacation rental options, MacCallum House is now offering more room selections than ever. Check out pictures and availability on our website. All rooms include wireless Internet along with our ever-expanding list of amenities.

"On the House" Amenity

We listened to you, our guests, and made an adjustment to our wine hour this summer. Many of you told us that it was difficult to make the wine hour so we introduced a more flexible program, "On the House", which has been getting rave reviews. For each room up to $14 in dining credits are now available every evening in the Grey Whale Bar & Café or the Dining Room. Enjoy towards dinner, desserts or for a house specialty cocktail or glass of premium local wine. 5:00 - 9:00 pm. For details and a full list of amenities visit our website.

Fall Menu & Holiday Dinners

We recently launched our fall menu. Every seasonal change brings new excitement to the Mac kitchen with a bounty of regional ingredients. Now huckleberries, chanterelles and porcini mushrooms from our local woods and pears and apples from nearby farms are added to Chef Kantor's rich North Coast culinary palette.

Be sure to catch us in the current issue of Coastal Living in an article on local wild mushrooms called "Where the Wild Things Grow." Our annual Wild Mushroom Winemaker Dinner is now famous, so don't miss it!

Our most popular holiday dining events of the year are coming up soon — Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas and New Year's Eve Dinners. Each year these exquisite dining experiences sell out. Call 800 609-0492 to book a table today. Visit our website for event details.

Dine Outs

All Dine Outs begin at 5:30 p.m. Reservations are required to dine in the restaurant. First come first seated in the Café. All proceeds from the evening are given to the organization. Make your reservation today at 800 609-0492 or 707 937-0289.

Gifts

Giving Tree

Beginning the weekend after Thanksgiving, help a local child by picking up a gift request off the MacCallum House Christmas tree and purchasing the requested gift. Return the gift to the tree in the lobby of the MacCallum House and we will make sure it brightens a Christmas morning. This is an annual Mac tradition.

Koi

MacCallum House Featured Artist:
Judy Chance Hope

From Judy:
"I live in a beautiful forested place in Mendocino County, where we are fortunate to have a pond with koi. They are to me, as well as to people of their native Japan, a source of great pleasure and a symbol of peace and tranquility. I hope my interpretation of them in this "Koi and Meditation Pond Series" of paintings conveys that feeling."
