MacCallum House set the standard in the very early days of the interest in organics with Executive Chef Alan Kantors’ long-time focus on sustainable farming and honoring his purveyors with a special food-shed map in an original colored drawing in the Inn/Restaurant foyer and on the Web site in a special purveyors’ section with a description of each small farm and vendor.
In addition, we have have created a Sustainability & Organics Forum to encourage discussion on the topic and further support or commitment to our organic/sustainability mission.
The restaurant has been written up in several professional restaurant business publications for this work and also for placing names of purveyors directly on the menu selections.
Everything about the MacCallum House Restaurant and Grey Whale Bar & Café is warm and inviting, from the sunny wrap-around porch to the convivial bar and romantic firelit dining rooms. Combining the town's charm, history, local life and flavors into one tasty package, the "Mac" is a great starting point for getting to know Mendocino. An exceptional staff makes you feel as if you've been invited over to dinner by friends.
In the restaurant dinners are served in the former library, graced by two riverstone fireplaces, candles and garden flowers on the tables or, informally, in the sunporch café.
”Absolutely everything we serve you is prepared in our own kitchen, including breads, hand rolled pastas, and smoked meat, fish and poultry. We use only the freshest seasonal ingredients and feature local and regional organic and wild crafted products whenever possible." Executive Chef Alan Kantor
